Packaging, Recycling and the PPWR at FOS®

Take-back and recycling of FOS® packaging in Germany and Austria

FOS® packaging and collated strips are registered with Interzero for the relevant take-back and recycling systems in Germany and Austria. The corresponding Interzero contract number can be found on the packaging label.

Registered packaging materials from trade, skilled trades and commercial businesses can be collected and sent for recycling through the relevant Interzero system. The applicable conditions of the respective Interzero take-back or collection system in Germany or Austria apply to the specific take-back and collection process.

Cardboard packaging made from recycled material

The relevant FOS® cardboard packaging is made from 100% recycled cardboard and is recyclable. For 2025, the Interzero “resources SAVED” certificate for FOS® reports calculated savings of 494 tonnes of primary resources and 43,421 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions through the recycling of materials. These figures are based on the calculation methodology specified in the certificate.

What is the PPWR?

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste. It has applied directly in the Member States of the European Union since 12 August 2026.

Among other things, the PPWR sets out requirements relating to substances in packaging, recyclability, recycled content, packaging minimisation, reuse, labelling and information. Which requirements apply to a specific type of packaging and when they must be applied depend, among other factors, on the type of packaging, its use and the relevant transitional period.

What is the EU Declaration of Conformity under the PPWR?

A conformity assessment procedure is required for the requirements laid down in or pursuant to Articles 5 to 12 of the PPWR. Manufacturers must prepare the required technical documentation and assess the conformity of their packaging with the applicable requirements.

Once conformity has been demonstrated, the manufacturer draws up an EU Declaration of Conformity in accordance with Article 39. In this declaration, the manufacturer confirms that the applicable requirements laid down in or pursuant to Articles 5 to 12 have been fulfilled. The declaration follows the structure specified in Annex VIII of the PPWR and must be kept up to date.
